Renowned car maker Volkswagen, one of the world´s leading car manufacturers, collaborated with Dream Glass Group (DGG), a leading Privacy Glass manufacturer, in the recent launch of the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. The car company wished to unveil its product in a dramatic way and what could be a better solution than DGG’s smart glass? Barcelona’s International Airport was the chosen site for the public presentation of the new Beetle. The design remained a secret until the perfect moment, because the car was placed within a cube formed of several DreamGlass® instant glass panels. In addition, numerous plasma screens were mounted on the external section of the cube. These were used to project video images, which were conveniently synchronized with all DreamGlass® electronic glass panels. DGG specializes in creating a wide variety of glass applications, but their materials are special in that the switchable glass can be altered from see-through to opaque instantly. This transformation occurs when the electricity fed through the window is turned on or off. Passengers were presented with a brief video that examined the Beetle’s history in the car industry. With the suspense levels successfully peaked, and with many onlookers gathered about the magic glass display, a countdown ensued. At zero, a switch was flipped, the electric glass turned transparent, and the new model was dramatically revealed. The Beetle reveal and the sales that followed were huge successes; now that is some intelligent glass! It proves, once again, that Innovative solutions are always possible with DreamGlass®.
